6 newly arrived migrants from Iraq, Sudan, Thailand, Cambodia, Sri Lanka and Ethiopia are going to teach you how to speak English.
THE PHORENA is a performance-game, in which the audience are invited to witness and participate as a group of newly arrived migrants practice their English through a series of language games.
Working with a class of recently-arrived migrants, Ahil works with a series of language games based on common societal practices such as translation, correction, paraphrasing and cutting off. These games come together to form one larger game, into which the audience is implicated. THE PHORENA works with the use and mis-use of language to look at the power of language in society.
